A new agreement between the administration of San Vinċenz de Paul and the Richmond Foundation has been signed to introduce a mental health training programme for staff. This initiative is designed to improve awareness and support relating to mental health, particularly for those working with vulnerable individuals, including older residents.

The agreement was formalised by Jorgen Souness, CEO of San Vinċenz de Paul, and Daniela Calleja Bitar, CEO of the Richmond Foundation. The signing took place in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, and Permanent Secretary, Renzo Degabriele.

The training programme consists of two course types. One addresses mental health in the general workplace, while the other is specifically tailored to the care of individuals over the age of 65. Training is being delivered at the San Vinċenz de Paul Training Centre and is mandatory for nurses and charge nurses.

Dr Agius Galea emphasised the government’s commitment to addressing mental health in the workplace. He stated that staff are being given the tools to manage mental health challenges in sensitive care environments. Mr Souness added that the agreement represents a step forward in supporting staff and building a more resilient and sustainable workforce. The programme will continue throughout the year.
