Notre Dame to reopen its doors in 2024 five years after fire accident

After the Notre Dame cathedral was engulfed in flames just two years ago, the landmark is set to reopen its doors to the public in 2024 after it was fully secured. The 850-year-old building had various parts of it destroyed due to massive flames, but the public body responsible for its conservation said in a statement on Saturday that the securing of the cathedral had been completed on schedule. The safety phase included wrapping and protecting the cathedral’s gargoyles, fortifying gables and removing burned scaffolding.

General Jean-Louis Georgelin, president of the organization responsible for restoration, said that this means ‘we’re officially saying that the cathedral is now saved, that it’s solid on its pillars, that its walls are solid.’ He continued by saying that the restoring phase is in full effect now, with the 2024 reopening set to be a victory day for all of France. This would fulfill President Macron’s promise t the public that restoration of the cathedral would be wrapped up five years after the incident which made international headlines. A definitive cause of the fire has not yet been identified despite an extensive investigation, with work on the cathedral being paused temporarily last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Company to pay $1,300 for someone to watch 13 horror movies

An online publication which caters to finance news called FinanceBuzz will be paying someone $1,300 to watch up to 13 scary movies for research purposes. The company is doing this to see whether high budget scary movies deliver more scares to its audience than low budget films of the same genre. The job is called ‘Horror Movie Heart Rate Analysis’, calling for applicants to have their heart rate recorded as they watch 13 of the scariest movies ever produced. The candidate will be sent a Fitbit in order for FinanceBuzz to observe the data, with an additional $50 for any rental fees the candidate may incur.

The movies on the research list include some of the biggest names in Hollywood; Saw, Amityville Horror, both ‘A Quiet Place’ films, Candyman, Insidious, The Blair Witch Project, Sinister, Get Out, The Purge, Halloween (2018), Paranormal Activity and last but not least, Annabelle. The horror heart rate analyst will have between October 9th and October 18th to watch all of the movies and complete the assignment. With all candidates having to be over 18 years old, they must all be US residents. For our local horror film lovers who cannot participate, such a spooky binge watch could still be an interesting prospect given Halloween is coming up really soon!

A scorching two days to start the week for Malta

It seems as though the summer heat just won’t give up as Sunday 19th September and the following Monday are expected to receive some of the hottest weather so far. Temperatures are set to feel as hot as 39 degrees Celsius according to the Weather Page Malta, as very humid and blazing air from Northern Africa continues to persist across the central Mediterranean. Malta International Airport weather reports also point to a similar spell of heat which is set to feel like approximately 34 degrees Celsius for the end of the week and the start.

For those eager for some autumn and winter weather, the rest of the week is set to get cloudier and less hot up until at least Saturday. It seems as though the weather is giving Malta the very last opportunity for its beachgoers to bask in the sun and go for one last quick swim. The temperatures and confusing weather however could also be indicative of larger climate issues the entire world has been experiencing as of late. So even if you’re still enjoying this last bit of summer heat in denial of the cold seasons, keeping in mind the bigger picture and contributing to some green organization might also benefit you greatly.
