Malta Daily contacted Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech following the announcement of Mel Gibson’s visit to Malta.
Grech stated, “This is the result of this year’s Mediterrane Film Festival. We will remain focused to ensure that our country’s historical story is brought to life on the big screen.”
Gibson spent the morning scouting potential filming locations, visiting iconic sites like St John’s Co-Cathedral, the Grandmaster’s Palace, and the streets of Valletta.
During his visit, Mel Gibson also met with Prime Minister Robert Abela. The meeting is seen as an important step in strengthening Malta’s relationship with Hollywood and promoting the island as a prime filming destination.
Gibson, a renowned actor, director, and producer, is best known for films like Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, and Hacksaw Ridge, the latter earning him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.
His work often focuses on historical and epic storytelling, making Malta’s rich cultural heritage an ideal setting for his next project. Gibson’s visit reinforces Malta’s growing reputation in the global film industry, and his presence is expected to attract more international productions to the island.
