A set of playing cards showcasing statues from the various village feasts in Malta have just been launched, accompanied by an illustrated book titled ‘Irranġajtni Għall-Festi’.
The cards, named ‘Mazz Vari’, was launched during a discussion about Maltese feasts with various children along with minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government Owen Bonnici and Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli.
During this event, presented by Ramires Sciberras, the game Mazz Vari was launched, featuring a fun set of cards that display the statues of traditional feasts in Malta. The book Irranġajtni għall-Festi by Simon Bartolo was also introduced as part of the special celebration on October 19th, titled “Fuq il-Festa.”
The aim of these initiatives is to connect children with Maltese culture in the spirit of festivities, as the Maltese festa has been recognised as an intangible heritage by UNESCO.
The Mazz Vari project features a unique collection of fun cards that celebrate iconic statues from Maltese festivals, allowing both children and adults to explore this cultural heritage.
Beautifully illustrated by artist Iella, the cards include details such as the year of creation and the materials used. The project was developed by creative director Sean Buhagiar and funded by the Ministry for National Heritage.
Alongside this, the book Irranġajtni għall-Festi, written by Simon Bartolo, captures the joy of Maltese festivals, highlighting their cultural significance. The event FUQ IL-FESTA 2024 will take place on October 19th in Valletta, featuring a solemn mass and various celebrations.
