Mater Dei Launches Advanced Vascular Hybrid Theatre

Mater Dei Hospital has opened a state-of-the-art Vascular Hybrid Theatre, following an investment of €2.7 million.
The facility is designed to provide critical care for patients needing interventions on arteries and veins, Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela confirmed.
The Minister explained that the new technology allows medical teams to visualise arteries across different areas of the body without performing invasive surgery.

This approach increases the number of procedures that can be safely carried out while reducing complications and improving outcomes.
The theatre will also be essential for emergency cases, including traffic accidents that involve damaged or severed arteries.
‘This theatre is not only suited for standard procedures, but also features advanced equipment that allows interventions through a small opening in the patient’s leg,’ Minister Jo Etienna Abela said.
He added that the theatre enables more precise treatment, protecting patient lives and supporting faster recovery.

Patients can often return home shortly after their procedure, avoiding prolonged hospital stays. The facility also provides opportunities for vulnerable patients who previously could not undergo certain interventions.
‘Today Malta can offer the best care for arteries and veins. Over 20 patients have already been treated successfully in this theatre, and thousands more will benefit. The Government remains committed to investing in advanced healthcare to improve outcomes for all patients,’ the Minister concluded.
