Instagram Introduces Story Comments
Instagram has launched a new feature called “Comments in Stories,” allowing users to comment directly on Stories. Unlike replies that send direct messages (DMs), these comments will be visible to the poster’s followers, offering a new way for users to interact on the platform.
Local influencer Sarah Zerafa highlighted the feature on her stories, testing it out and encouraging her followers to engage through this new avenue.
However, only mutual followers can leave comments, creating a safer and more personal space for engagement. Comments will last 24 hours, just like the Stories, but if a Story is saved as a highlight, comments can continue beyond the typical Story lifespan.
Instagram also provides privacy options, allowing users to disable comments on a per-Story basis, ensuring control over interactions.
This feature aligns with Instagram’s broader strategy to boost engagement on key areas like Stories and Reels.
Recent updates have focused on making the platform more interactive, including new text fonts, effects, and animations for Stories and Reels, as well as a new in-app text editor.
Other recent additions include carousel posts with up to 20 images or videos and the ability to add songs to profiles.
