Martina Fenech Wins Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2025

Martina Fenech has been crowned the winner of the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza 2025 with her song ‘Ħajjitna’, claiming victory in the 33rd edition of Malta’s prestigious song competition.

The contest, which celebrates Maltese music and culture near Malta’s Independence Day on September 21, took place on Saturday evening at Dar il-Mediterran għall-Konferenzi in Valletta. A total of 20 songs were performed throughout the night, all in the Maltese language, highlighting the creativity and talent of local artists.

Martina’s winning entry was composed by Edward Abela with lyrics by Emil Calleja Bayliss, impressing both the judges and the audience alike.

The Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza first began in 1983 and, after a brief hiatus, returned in 1997, becoming an annual fixture on the Maltese musical calendar.

Many local artists see it as a prestigious platform to showcase their work, particularly because all entries are performed in Maltese, celebrating the island’s language and musical heritage.
