Manchester United move Munich remembrance event online

“The 63rd anniversary of the Munich air disaster today will be like none that have gone before it.”

Today marks the 63rd anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster which left 23 people dead, eight of which being Manchester United’s own Busby Babes, but the event will be commemorated differently in 2021.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, United have moved their anniversary event from Old Trafford to digital platforms such as MUTV and United’s social media.

Showers expected for the weekend after two days of summer in February

After what can be considered as two days of Summer in February, the Malta International Airport has issued a forecast which predicts isolated showers on Sunday and wind & thundery showers on Monday.

Cooler temperatures are also expected with highs of 22°C and lows of 12°C going into Monday.

This rapid change in weather is a result of the low-pressure system over Northern Africa moving across the Mediterranean, so get your jackets and scarves ready!

Around 1,000 Europe-bound immigrants stopped from fleeing Libya

Close to 1,000 immigrants, most of which being African, were caught trying to flee Libya and head for Europe via wooden boats and dinghies.

The pleasant weather in the Mediterranean may have encouraged travel, with Libyan Law Forces saving around 800 immigrants over the span of two days, returning them to Libya.

Currently, Libya is in the midst of national instability due to the country’s civil war and many nationals ended up seeking criminal services to orchestrate clandestine voyages towards Europe.

Sound of Music star Christopher Plummer dies aged 91

Christopher Plummer, the Canadian actor best known for his role in the Sound of Music, passed away aged 91.

Tributes poured in celebrating the life of the Hollywood legend who had an illustrious career in cinema, with his family reporting that Plummer passed peacefully in his Connecticut home with wife Elaine Taylor alongside him.

Amongst many others, The Oscars Twitter account posted a tribute to the actor, highlighting his award for Best Supporting Actor in 2012 for “Beginners”.
