In the first half Manchester City looked complacent with them attacking too much and leaving the defence quite open. This led to a surprise opening goal for the Villains in the 37th minute from a Matty Cash header. The second half started in a very similar way to the first, with Aston Villa searching for a counter attack and Manchester City desperately  looking for a goal.  In the 69th minute Aston Villa surprisingly doubled their lead through former Liverpool hero Phillipe Coutinho.

Fellow Red Bull driver Sergio Perez rounded up the top 2 positions with Mercedes driver George Russell finishing in 3rd place and taking his second podium place of the season.

The race started with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc at pole and  having a great start to the race distancing himself from his challengers. Unfortunately for him it wasn’t to be as in the 29th lap he was forced to retire due to his engine stopping midway through a lap. This opened the door for the two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez and the Mercedes of George Russell to try and win the league.

Lewis Hamilton had a very torrid start to the race, even asking his engineers to retire from the race after he and Kevin Magnussen made contact leading him to start over again at the back of the grid. Despite this disappointment the 7 time World Champion continued to race and managed to finish the race in an unexpected 5th place.
