Kylian Mbappe, the French striker for Paris St-Germain, has informed the club of his intention to depart at the end of the season as his contract is set to expire, amid heavy links to Real Madrid. 

Last summer, Mbappe’s future sparked a standoff with PSG, resulting in his temporary exile from the first-team squad. Although an agreement was reached to ensure PSG’s compensation upon his departure, the specifics of his exit remain uncertain, with possibilities including a transfer fee or financial concessions from Mbappe.

PSG, while preferring to retain Mbappe, seem prepared for his departure as they aim to rejuvenate their squad and move away from the ‘Galacticos’ strategy. 

Mbappe’s potential exit comes at a time when PSG leads the French league by 11 points and progresses in domestic and European competitions, showcasing his significant contributions to the team. 

Since joining PSG in 2017, initially on loan before a permanent move, Mbappe has amassed an impressive record of 243 goals and 93 assists in 290 appearances, aiding the club in securing five Ligue 1 titles. 

Despite earlier contractual extensions, Mbappe’s refusal to agree to an additional year prompted his decision to leave, potentially concluding his remarkable tenure with PSG.
