Man Charged With Getting Explicit Photos From Minors With Fake Profile

According to a TVM court report, a 58 year old lab technician and catechist named William Mark Camilleri, used a fake profile to ask minors to send explicit photos.

Camilleri allegedly used the Facebook profile to contact over 80 minors over the past year. Eight of these he convinced to send explicit photos.

The parents of a 13 year old boy grew suspicious of their son’s contact with a person named Tanya Borg, with the fake profile allegedly asking about his home address and school as well as urging a meet up.

The police were contacted, who tracked down Camilleri. Another profile was reportedly also in use for the same purposes.

The man was charged with defilement of a minor, accessing or processing indecent material of minors, harassing a minor, and proposing to meet a minor with the intention of committing offence.

Camilleri pleaded not guilty but was remanded in custody. A protection order was issued for the victim and his parents.

Despite upholding the request for the nondisclosure of the victim’s name, Magistrate Nadia-Helena Vella did not do the same for the accused.
