Man And Woman Arrested Over €650,000 Drug Importation

A man and a woman were arrested overnight after they were found in possession of various substances suspected to be illegal drugs, with an estimated street value of around €650,000.

The suspects, a 27-year-old man from Montenegro and a 27-year-old Serbian woman, were travelling in a Volkswagen driven by the man.

They were stopped shortly after arriving in Malta via catamaran from Sicily, on suspicion of drug trafficking and importation from Italy. In the search revealed several packets of drugs hidden in false compartments located at the bottom and rear of the car.

Authorities discovered approximately 15 kilograms of suspected cannabis, 3 kilograms of suspected cocaine, and hundreds of pink pills believed to be ecstasy. Both individuals are currently being held in police custody in Floriana.
