Maltese Youths to Benefit from Japanese Working Holiday Visa Scheme

Maltese youths will soon be able to live, work, and explore Japan under a new working holiday visa agreement between Malta and Japan.
The scheme will allow young people aged 18 to 30 to travel freely across the country while working part-time to support their stay.
The news was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg in a Facebook post, revealing that the agreement had been nearly nine years in the making.
The bilateral deal offers young adults in both nations the chance to immerse themselves in each other’s culture in a more independent and flexible way.
The agreement is reciprocal, meaning Japanese youths will also be able to travel and work in Malta under the same terms, strengthening cultural ties and exchange between the two countries.
Full details on how the scheme will function are expected to be published soon, outlining the application process and requirements for prospective participants.
Deputy Prime Minister Borg will formally mark the occasion during a special ceremony at the Osaka World EXPO 2025, where he will lead celebrations commemorating 60 years of diplomatic relations between Malta and Japan—highlighting a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
