Maltese swimmer getting thousands of views on TikTok after showing diving skills

A Maltese swimmer with impeccable diving skills is garnering thousands of views on TikTok after posting an 8-second clip of a pristine dive into Malta’s clear blue seas.

The video, taken at St. Peter’s Pool in the south of Malta shows TikTok user @felic80 flawlessly diving into the blue depths with somewhat of an audience watching along. The video has since gained over 31,000 views on TikTok, with a barrage of comments praising the man whilst others hilariously captioning it “Me jumping to conclusions”.

The user had already posted a number of diving clips, with his first one gaining over 12,000 views and the others following.

A summer of hands-on experiences for Heritage Malta student passport holders

Heritage Malta’s young passport holders are in for yet another treat with the launch of the popular Student Passport Summer Programme, which aims to increase accessibility to our cultural heritage among children and young teens.

Starting on Friday, 1st July, and ending on Tuesday, 20th September, the programme includes various fun and educational activities to be held at Heritage Malta’s sites. There will be walking trails, painting, a patchwork workshop, model making, artwork analysis, cloth dying, an introduction to paper conservation, a tour about different types of sea turtles, model making, a hands-on cooking experience, and more.

This year’s summer programme was launched during a press conference at the National Museum of Natural History, to which a class of primary school students was also invited.

Addressing those present. Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, commended Heritage Malta for these initiatives through which youngsters are not only kept active throughout the summer holidays but are also introduced to various aspects of Malta’s history and culture while enjoying themselves in hands-on experiences. He urged Heritage Malta student passport holders to put the passport to good use and visit all sites and museums free of charge.

Heritage Malta’s Chief Executive Officer, Noel Zammit, said that the student summer programme is a perfect example of how Heritage Malta is placing people of all ages at the centre of its mission to make heritage constantly available to everyone, everywhere. The programme also embodies the agency’s constant endeavours to give its visitors a more holistic and exciting experience through innovative and creative means aided by the latest technology.

Vanessa Ciantar, Heritage Malta’s Senior Principal Officer for Education and Outreach, gave an overview of this summer’s activities, which will be held at Heritage Malta museums and sites as well as via virtual platforms. Students of all ages are being catered for. One guardian per child is being invited to attend the activity together with the participant.

Man grievously injured due to motorcycle accident in Gzira

Police were informed this morning at around 0730hrs that their assistance was needed in Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli, Gzira due to a traffic accident.

From preliminary investigations, police found that an accident had occurred between a Lexmoto Valiant 125 driven by a 30-year-old man resident of San Gwann and a Daihatsu Terios driven by a 49-year-old resident of San Pawl il-Bahar.

The motorcyclist was given medical assistance and transported to Mater Dei hospital, where he was certified as having suffered grievous injuries. Investigations are ongoing.

€3,000 higher average gross for Maltese men than women

According to a new study by the National Statistics Office for 2020, men were found to be making €3,000 more than women on average.

In Malta, the annual average gross salary for men was set at €20,188, whereas that of women was set at €17,453. This translates to a difference of €2,735.

The difference in Gozo was far less at €281, being €17,743 for women and €17,462 for men. Women in Gozo thus make slightly more money than their Maltese counterparts.

The average gross annual basic salary for employees was estimated at €18,913 two years ago. The study also found that just over 85,300 people living in private households were at risk of poverty, which is an increase of 2,600 over the previous year.
