Maltese Sailing Team Crowned European Female Champions

Malta has made history at the SB20 European Championships in Ostend, Belgium, with Team BOOST Stella Maris being crowned European Female Champions.

Representing the Royal Malta Yacht Club and the SB20 Malta Association, skipper Gabriella Mifsud led teammates Anna Basalkina, Mattea Ciantar, and Emilie Gregory in thirteen challenging races.

The SB20 is a fiercely competitive one design keelboat class where success depends on skill, teamwork, and tactics.

After winning the Maltese SB20 National League, the team qualified for the European stage, where they competed against a strong fleet of international sailors. Despite beginning the series with a 32nd place, they showed resilience and climbed steadily up the rankings.

They ended the championship with an impressive fifth place in the final race, finishing 13th overall.

The sailors had to adapt to conditions very different from their home waters, including Atlantic style waves, strong currents, and winds in the low 20s.

Their ability to adjust proved decisive. Although relatively new to the SB20 Class, their collective experience, including the Rolex Middle Sea Race, gave them the foundation to succeed.
