In honour of World Ocean Day, the QLZH Foundation invites individuals from all walks of life to join their highly anticipated 6th annual Ocean Bed Clean-Up event.
Last year’s event was a resounding success, with 100 dedicated volunteers, including 40 skilled divers and 12 enthusiastic kayakers, dedicating half a day to clear the seabed and surroundings of Senglea waterfront. They removed an astonishing 1.8 tons (1,800kg) of rubbish, including 55kg of plastic, 980kg of metal, 155kg of wood, 122kg of glass, 185kg of tires, and various other materials, totalling an additional 305kg. Unexpected items like road signs, car tires, sinks, fans, and even toilets highlighted the urgent need for responsible waste management.
Supported by Kunsill Lokali l-Isla and proudly sponsored by QuickLets, Zanzi Homes, QLC, and Deloitte, along with esteemed sponsors like Bad Boy Cleaners, No To Plastic Malta, Dive Systems, HMS Group, Mannarinu, and Raniero Photography, this event aims to preserve our marine ecosystems.
Led by co-founder Steve Mercieca, the QLZH Foundation aims to raise awareness about proper waste disposal and emphasise individual actions’ impact on the planet. Mercieca emphasizes that the clean-up event promotes conscientious consumption, responsible waste disposal, and safeguarding our natural resources.
Join the QLZH Foundation on Saturday, June 10th, from 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM in Isla for this remarkable event. Volunteers of various capacities are welcome, including Advanced Open Water Divers, snorkelers, land pickers, kayakers, and boat drivers.
