Maltese Minister for Foreign Affairs, EU Affairs & Trade, Ian Borg, headed to Milan to attend the state funeral held in honour of former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi. Representing the Maltese government, Minister Borg received an invitation from the Italian Government.
Minister Borg made an appearance among the sea of mourners gathered to bid farewell to Berlusconi, the larger-than-life politician known for his controversial career. Taking to social media, the Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the Berlusconi family and the Italian government, with a special emphasis on Vice Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, known to share a profound connection with the late Prime Minister.
Silvio Berlusconi died on Monday, June 12th at the age of 86. The former prime minister dead months after it was revealed that he was battling leukaemia, spending over six weeks in hospital from early April. The billionaire magnate was Italy’s longest serving prime minister post-war and had a polarising, yet powerful career in Italian politics, sports and media.
