A Language of Love: Charles & Ron Unveil Their Spring/Summer '24 Collection at Milan Fashion Week

Local designers Charles & Ron, renowned for their exquisite fashion creations, have graced the Milan Fashion Week with their unparalleled talent, unveiling their much-anticipated Spring/Summer ’24 collection.

Aptly named “A Language of Love,” this collection weaves a story of passion, nostalgia, and the beauty of handwritten letters, all while reflecting the essence of Malta.

With a backdrop as magnificent as the Palazzo Serbelloni, nestled in the heart of Milan, just a short 15-minute stroll from the iconic Duomo di Milano, the stage was set for a fashion spectacle that would capture the hearts of fashion enthusiasts worldwide.

Charles & Ron have masterfully translated the Maltese essence into a striking colour palette divided into three distinct groups.

The first group draws inspiration from the lush Mediterranean citrus groves, showcasing vivid green and yellow shades reminiscent of sun-kissed fruits. The second group takes a more monochromatic approach, featuring a timeless black and white theme. The final colour group is a warm and inviting palette inspired by the hues of a Mediterranean sunset.

Charles & Ron have always found inspiration in their beloved Malta, but for this collection, their muse was much more personal. The designers revealed that their creative spark came from the letters they used to receive from their dear late friend, Katia Saunders. These heartfelt handwritten letters were filled with love, passion, and the kind of genuine emotion that has become rare in today’s digital age. In a world dominated by emails and text messages, the designers wanted to transport people back to a time when handwritten letters were the language of love.

KSU’s Beach Day Demonstration: Protecting Malta’s Beaches for the Public

KSU's Beach Day Demonstration: Protecting Malta's Beaches for the Public
Sep 23 2023 Share

In a vibrant display of unity and determination, the Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) organised a Beach Day Demonstration in Castille Square this morning.

This event aimed to underscore the importance of preserving the country’s picturesque beaches for the public’s enjoyment while shedding light on the issue of excessive privatisation, with a special focus on the stunning island of Comino.

In the face of increasing concerns about the commercial exploitation of these natural treasures, KSU’s demonstration sought to send a resounding message: Malta’s beaches must remain open and free for all.

Over the years, Malta has witnessed a surge in protests and campaigns dedicated to safeguarding its precious coastal resources. These efforts have been driven by the growing concern that some of the most pristine stretches of sand and crystal-clear waters are at risk of falling into the hands of private individuals or corporations, jeopardising public access and the ecological balance of these areas.

School Year 2023-24: Significant Numbers and Preparations

As the upcoming school year approaches, the Ministry of Education in Malta is gearing up for the return of thousands of educators and students.

Here are some key numbers and preparations for the start of the 2023-24 school year:

On September 25, a total of 7,712 educators in State schools will resume their duties, preparing to impart knowledge and support to students throughout the year.

September 27 marks the return of students, with 28,757 students entering schools across Malta. These students span from the first year of Primary to the eleventh year of Secondary education.

Additionally, 5,942 Kindergarten-level students will commence their school year on October 2. In total, when all students have returned, a staggering 34,699 students will have entered State schools.

The new school year sees the employment of 275 new professionals among educators, Kindergarten Educators (KGE), and Learning Support Educators (LSEs). Furthermore, contracts for 566 other professionals have been renewed.

A crucial aspect of the educational system, this school year will provide 2,410 free school transport routes, with 925 dedicated to State school students. Approximately 32,833 students, ranging from Kindergarten to Secondary, will benefit from this service.

Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, Clifton Grima, emphasised the extensive preparations undertaken to ensure a smooth start to the school year. Efforts were made to ensure that all classes in State schools have dedicated educators for each subject and to enhance the overall educational environment. These endeavours encompassed infrastructural, digital, and technological improvements, all aimed at enhancing the educational experience.

Minister Grima extended his well-wishes to educators, administrative staff, and students, recognising their commitment and dedication to the education system. He highlighted that the ultimate goal of the new school year is to provide students with every opportunity to achieve their individual aspirations.
