The 20 Civil Protection Department firefighters who were deployed to Greece earlier in July have safely returned home after their mission to extinguish raging wildfires.
Images shared by Civil Protection Malta show the firefighters reuniting with their loved ones as they walk back home through Malta International Airport’s arrivals.
The firefighters were aiding as part of the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid mechanism. Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri also welcomed the officers, after having been present to their send-off earlier in July.
Their training, Chief Assistance Rescue Officer Michel Galea had said, will prove highly informative for their work back in Malta, having faced various challenges that prepared them for much more intense situations.
