Malta’s Median Annual Wage Reaches €23,611 In 2024, The Highest In Four Years

The Malta Labour Survey have provided insights into the earnings of both full-time and part-time workers, excluding the self-employed sector. The research focused on the average annual basic salary, excluding income from overtime, bonuses, or allowances.

In 2021, the survey revealed that the average basic salary in Malta was €19,914, while in Gozo, it stood at €17,240. These figures offer a glimpse into the regional wage differences across the islands.

Fast forward to 2024, and the data shows a notable increase in salaries. The average basic salary in Malta has risen to €23,611, while in Gozo, it has grown to €20,557.

Farewell To Zarto: Honouring The Loyalty Of A Devoted Service Dog

The Malta Correctional Services Agency bid a heartfelt farewell to their retired service dog, Zarto, this week, honouring him with a final salute. Officers lined up in a touching tribute to show their respect for the loyal companion, with some visibly emotional as they said their goodbyes.

Zarto, who served faithfully for many years, was more than just a working dog — he was a source of comfort, support, and joy for both officers and those in their care.

In a statement, the Agency said:
“It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved service dog, Zarto. After many years of loyal service, Zarto has brought joy, comfort, and support to our team and the persons we serve. His presence will be profoundly missed. Thank you, Zarto, for your unwavering dedication. You will always be in our hearts.”

Zarto’s legacy as a devoted and trusted companion will be remembered fondly by all who worked alongside him.

MaltaPost has just launched a new set of postage stamps that will surely captivate feline fans and collectors alike.

The “Cats Series II” collection, painted by talented local artist Andrew Micallef, celebrates the charm of Malta’s beloved cats in stunning artwork.

The collection consists of four beautifully designed stamps: The €0.20 stamp features a tri-coloured cat lounging in the countryside, with the majestic Gozo Ċittadella as a picturesque backdrop. The €0.45 stamp captures a white tabby cat at the serene fishing village of Marsaxlokk, with the iconic Our Lady of Pompei parish church rising in the distance. The €1.00 stamp portrays an elegant orange tabby on a wrought iron bench, framed by the chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, overlooking Mgarr Harbour. The €1.91 stamp showcases a long-haired Tuxedo cat, with the charming village of Siggiewi and its St Nicholas parish church in the background.

These 4 stamps will be available for purchase from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo, or can be ordered online, starting from Friday, 4th April 2025.
