The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, has officially launched this year’s grape harvest season for wine production. As is tradition, the harvest began with the early varieties of Chardonnay and Moscato and will continue with other types in the weeks ahead.

Minister Refalo highlighted that the harvest is not only a key moment in the agricultural calendar but also a reminder of the value of farmers whose hard work produces distinctive Maltese and Gozitan wines. He noted that although every year brings its own challenges, the final product consistently stands out for its quality.

“This season is a testament to the dedication of our farmers, who work daily to bring out the best of what our land offers. Maltese and Gozitan wines are more than agricultural products — they are part of our national identity and a much-loved attraction for tourists,” Minister Refalo said.

He also emphasised the Government’s continued support through the new Directorate of Research and Advisory Services and the Agriconnect service, which provide farmers with research-based advice, tools and information to strengthen competitiveness and resilience.

The minister concluded by thanking farmers and producers, wishing them a successful and fruitful season.
