A new infographic released by ourplanet_eu highlights Malta’s clean drinking water index as the 10th best amongst EU countries.

With a 95.3 clean index, measuring how well countries protect your health in terms of unsafe drinking water and unsafe sanitation, Malta placed between Ireland and Spain in 9th and 11th place respectively.

This follows groundbreaking upgrades by the Water Services Corporation to make Malta’s tap water safe and tastier than ever.

Aiming to create a harmonised taste across Malta and Gozo, the effort reduced chloride and chlorine levels by 30% and ensured that 70% of local tap water comes from reverse osmosis.

Meanwhile, a new government scheme covered 60% of the cost (up to €100) for households installing activated carbon filters.

Oliver Scicluna With Empowering Message Over Disability

Chief Executive Officer of Aġenzija Sapport Oliver Scicluna took to social media to share an empowering message over how one can view themselves in the face of having their disability mocked.

‘Look at this man, how small. I heard it so many times. When I was younger and more sensitive, I got hurt’, he wrote as he shared an AI generated image of himself.

Constricted to crutches due to his disability, the AI image portrays Oliver as a small man walking amongst larger people.

‘When I began to grow up I started to understand. And now, beyond understanding and laughter… sometimes you have to change the way you look at yourself instead of changing the world.’

‘Try and change the world into things that make more sense. In this case, large or small, I’m still a man.’

Thanks to quick action by architects, authorities, and one alert resident, 32 people were safely evacuated before the collapse occurred.

BUILDING COLLAPSE IN PACEVILLE ST JULIANS MALTA Police and Civil Protection Department officials are trying to establish whether there was anyone trapped in the rubble. A multi-storey building in the heart of Paceville collapsed on Wednesday night, just hours after residents were evacuated due to safety concerns. The incident unfolded at about 10.30pm, with a substantial part of the building on Triq Paceville collapsing into a heap in the heart of the entertainment mecca. The building is adjacent to an active construction site that was served with a stop works notice just one day ago, on June 10. The Building and Construction Authority ordered works at that site to stop on the basis of damage reports filed by a neighbour. Sources told Times of Malta that residents of the building were ordered out of the building due to those safety concerns. Two restaurants in the area were instructed by the police to remain closed on Wednesday due to those same safety concerns. #malta #maltaphotography #travel #visitmalta #lovemalta #maltagram #gozo #travelphotography #europe #maltalovers #valletta #lovinmalta #maltaisland #photography #sea #Summer #instagood #photooftheday #Love #travelgram #mediterranean #nature #maltalife #maltatoday #islandlife #island #sliema #maltagozo #picoftheday #gozoisland

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) both confirmed that the site had been inspected and a stop notice was issued on 10 June.

After discussions with architects and with help from the police, residents were removed from the building as a precaution.

Excel Trading Ltd, developers of a nearby site, said their demolition work was completed weeks earlier. Their architect, along with others involved, identified serious issues in the structure of Tania Flats and recommended evacuation.

Excel maintains the collapse was unrelated to their project and says it is fully cooperating with authorities.

The Kamra tal-Periti is investigating the case and praised the architects and public officials whose swift action saved lives. However, it is also looking into whether professional misconduct contributed to the collapse.
