Malta With 3rd Highest Amount Of Under-18s Without Citizenship Of Country Of Residence

In 2024, around 7.5 million people under the age of 18 living in the European Union did not hold the citizenship of the country they resided in.
According to Eurostat figures, Malta ranked among the countries with the highest proportions of non-citizen minors, with 19.3% of its under-18 population lacking Maltese citizenship. This places Malta just behind Luxembourg (45.7%) and Austria (21.9%).
On the other end of the scale, Slovakia (0.4%), Poland (0.8%), and Romania (0.9%) reported the lowest shares of non-citizen minors.
