Malta To Recognise State Of Palestine This September

Malta will officially recognise a Palestinian state during the United Nations General Assembly in September, Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed on Tuesday evening.
The announcement followed a similar declaration earlier in the day by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and came just days after France revealed its own plans to recognise Palestine.
In a Facebook post published shortly after a protest in Valletta against the situation in Gaza, Abela said Malta’s decision “reflects our commitment to efforts for a lasting peace in the Middle East”.
Abela had initially announced Malta’s intention to recognise Palestine during a planned UN conference in June, but the event was postponed.
The decision to make the declaration in September aligns Malta with several other European nations. Ireland, Norway and Spain each officially recognised Palestine in May.
