Malta to provide medical supplies to Ukraine as EU agrees on sanctions

Prime Minister Robert Abela has confirmed that Malta will aid Ukraine through the provision of medical supplies where necessary. In a recent Facebook post, Abela stated that the engaged in a night of discussions on the tensions in Ukraine, which discussions also included Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Abela’s Facebook Post revealed that EU leaders agreed on a number of economic sanctions as discussions and decisions continue on a European level. The Prime Minister highlighted how such shocking events persist as the world watches, sharing the common sentiment of desire for peace and ceasefire.

Together with other world leaders, Abela went to Brussels on Thursday to discussion sanctions against Russia and President Vladimir Putin after troops invaded Ukrainian territory.

Neil Agius immortalised in 2.6m statue at Valletta exhibition

Maltese record-breaking athlete Neil Agius has captured our attention time and time again, but it seems like someone stole his spotlight this time around.

The swimmer has been immortalised in an enormous 2.6 meter, 266 kilogram wooden statue which sculptor Austin Camilleri has been working on “since August of last year.” Agius stated that he was taken aback by the feeling of knowing the statue and legacy will be here ‘long after he is gone’, going on to highlight that it hits home how the choices we make to protect our sea and planet go beyond us.

You can check out the sculpture at tonight’s exhibition in Valletta’s Spazju Kreattiv, where Agius himself will also be present.

Miriam Dalli slams ‘go find a husband & stay cooking at home’ comments made on recent video

Malta’s Minister for Energy Miriam Dalli is not impressed with a recent comment made on a Facebook video telling her to “go find a life, a husband and stay cooking at home.”

Posting a screenshot of the comment, which also told Dalli that ‘politics is not [her] subject’, the Minister clapped back at the misogynistic statement, highlighting that not only will she not stay at home, but she will continue to encourage more women to come forward because “an old mentality will strengthen [them] and not make [them] lose heart.”

The video featured Dalli debating with Nationalist Party’s Joe Giglio on TVM programme XTRA and was posted to Dalli’s Facebook page on Monday, welcoming a flurry of likes at comments.

WATCH: An electoral win is ‘doable’ for the Nationalist Party, says Jason Azzopardi

When asked if he believes that the Nationalist Party’s electoral manifest is enough to shrink the voting margin between the PN & the Labour Party, Jason Azzopardi stated that an electoral win is ‘doable’ for the party, albeit being an uphill struggle.

Azzopardi stated that, during the entirety of his and his colleague’s political careers, he has never before seen so many new people open their doors to the Nationalist Party. He went on to state that surveys are only a glimpse of electoral standings before going on to suggest a potential win for the Nationalist Party.

Azzopardi stated that it is difficult for many reasons, “especially due to the Labour Party’s grasp of national broadcasting”, before going back to highlight the ‘game-changing’ manifesto and the unprecedented amount of feedback.
