Malta To Implement Major Land Registration Reform By 2035

Nov 26 2024 Share

Minister for Lands, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, announced the launch of a public consultation for the National Strategy for the Reform of the Land Registration System: 2025-2035, inviting feedback from stakeholders and the public.

This strategy outlines measures to modernize the system, which has operated under 1981 legislation, and expand compulsory registration to cover all Maltese and Gozitan territory by 2035.

Currently, only 54% of Malta is under compulsory registration. The reform seeks to ensure all property buyers receive title certificates, bolstering trust in the property market. It emphasizes state protection of property rights, transparency, and the adoption of digital systems to streamline processes.

The strategy includes 18 recommendations, such as updating the Land Registry Act, improving title certificates, clarifying property boundaries, and introducing mediation frameworks for disputes. Public meetings will explain the proposals and encourage participation.

Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi stressed the reform’s importance in securing property ownership, akin to car logbooks, and ensuring confidence in property transactions.

The consultation document, informed by input from entities like the Notarial Council and Developers Association, marks a collaborative effort for a robust system.

John Tinniswood, the world’s oldest man, passed away at 112 in Southport, UK, Guinness World Records announced.

Born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, the same year the Titanic sank, he was a lifelong Liverpool FC fan and lived through both World Wars. He died surrounded by music and love at Hollies Care Home, where he had resided since his 100th birthday.

Tinniswood became the world’s oldest living man in April 2024 after the passing of Venezuela’s Juan Vicente Perez. Despite his remarkable longevity, he credited his age to luck and moderation, with no strict diet except for his weekly battered fish and chips.

Reflecting on his long life, he said, “I just take it in my stride.”

A Second World War veteran, Tinniswood served in the Army Pay Corps, managing logistics, accounts, and soldier welfare. He later worked as an accountant for Shell and BP before retiring in 1972.

He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Blodwen, and is survived by his daughter, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. His family described him as intelligent, brave, and an inspiration to all who knew him.

Nov 26 2024 Share

Whilst speaking on NET TV, Leader of the Opposition Bernard Grech stated that the Maltese public had won another victory with the resignation of Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo.

He also emphasised that the Standards Commissioner had not only found Bartolo guilty of misconduct but also implicated Camilleri in the matter. The Opposition leader reiterated the need for accountability, urging further action in light of the findings.

The Leader of Opposition confirmed that the PN will continue take the necessary steps in this matter and further put pressure on the Labour government and Clint Camilleri.
