Malta School Games 2025 Finals At The Basketball Complex In Ta’ Qali

The Malta School Games 2025 officially kicked off their finals week with a celebratory ceremony at the Basketball Complex in Ta’ Qali, bringing together hundreds of students from schools across Malta and Gozo.

Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, emphasized that the Games celebrate holistic education, where sports help develop both physical ability and character. He highlighted ongoing investment in physical education, including more PE lessons in the national curriculum, as part of the government’s vision to nurture an active and health-conscious generation.
Throughout the week, national finals in various sports including football, basketball, handball, volleyball, table tennis, and athletics — will take place at key facilities such as the Ta’ Qali Basketball Pavilion, National Pool, Cottonera Sports Complex, and Matthew Micallef St John Stadium in Marsa. Students aged 9 to 16 from 50 state, church, and independent schools are participating, selected from thousands in earlier rounds.

Principal Permanent Secretary Tony Sultana noted that these games align with the Public Service Expo also taking place this week, and reflect values like discipline, commitment, and perseverance. Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for Education Matthew Vella underlined how sport, education, and inclusion play a key role in shaping students’ futures.
