Malta Public Transport Launches First Fully Electric 9-Metre Buses In €800,000 Investment

Malta Public Transport has introduced the island’s first fully electric nine-metre low-floor buses, marking a significant step in its investment in service quality, sustainability, and passenger comfort.
The two new vehicles, which are similar in size to the operator’s medium-sized diesel fleet, have been designed to navigate village centres and narrower roads where larger buses are less practical. Representing an €800,000 investment, the buses are already operating on a number of routes, with performance being closely monitored.
With this latest addition, Malta Public Transport’s electric fleet now totals 42 vehicles 36 in Malta and six in Gozo’s Park and Ride service.
The new buses feature several innovations aimed at improving both passenger experience and driver safety. These include larger passenger information display screens and digital mirror camera systems, which provide improved visibility for drivers. Each vehicle is also fitted with two charging sockets, enabling fast charging when required.
Konrad Pule, General Manager of Malta Public Transport, said, “These new buses reflect our commitment to continuously improving the quality of our service. They represent another step forward in our mission to provide a service that is not only reliable and comfortable, but also sustainable. Investing in electric mobility helps us reduce our carbon footprint while improving the overall experience for our passengers.”
