Malta 'One Of The Safest Countries': 30 Crimes Per 1K People
Mar 13 2025 Share

The Malta Police Force welcomed the new  ‘Annual Crime Review’ findings issued by the Crimemalta Observatory for the year 2024, as Malta was deemed one of the safest countries.

The crime rate in the Maltese Islands continued to decline in 2024, with reported crimes falling by 1% compared to the previous year.

Despite a growing population of 563,443, total reported crimes stood at 16,662—significantly lower than projected figures based on past trends.

The crime rate has dropped from 45 per 1,000 people in 2004 to 30 in 2024, positioning Malta among the safer EU countries, particularly for theft and sexual violence.

Homicide rates remained low at 0.7 per 100,000 people, down from 1.7 in previous years but slightly up from 0.4 in 2023. Importantly, all homicides reported since 2018 have been solved, maintaining a 100% clearance rate. Violent crimes also saw a decline, with 344 cases recorded in 2024.

However, theft increased in some categories, notably entertainment-related thefts and pickpocketing, which rose from 405 cases in 2023 to 650 in 2024, emphasising the need for public awareness.

Reports of domestic violence continued their annual rise since 2007, reaching 2,225 cases, with psychological harm accounting for 78% of incidents.

While Malta remains a relatively safe country, these trends highlight the importance of continued efforts to combat crime and support victims.

The Malta Football Association (MFA) and Project Green have launched a new collaboration to encourage football clubs to implement environmentally friendly initiatives. These projects will focus on greening and beautifying football grounds, as well as introducing sustainable practices such as water conservation for irrigation.

During a formal signing event, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation Clifton Grima, along with Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli, announced the launch of the Green Goal scheme. With an investment of nearly €530,000 from Project Green, this agreement ensures collaboration between the MFA and Project Green for the next four years, providing football clubs across Malta and Gozo with opportunities to benefit from sustainability-driven improvements.

As part of the initiative, Project Green will also carry out beautification projects at the National Football Centre in Ta’ Qali and the Gozo Stadium. Minister Miriam Dalli highlighted the importance of such collaborations in improving recreational spaces while fostering a stronger connection between sports and the environment. Minister Clifton Grima emphasised the crucial role of sports clubs in Maltese and Gozitan society, stating that these organisations contribute to the holistic development of children and young people. He praised the initiative for enhancing both sports and community well-being.

Project Green CEO Joseph Cuschieri reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to community engagement and the regeneration of open spaces, ensuring greater accessibility for families. MFA President Bjorn Vassallo expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating that the Association is proud to be involved in projects that promote sustainability while benefiting football clubs across the country.

The Green Goal scheme will be managed by the MFA, and football clubs interested in applying can contact the Association at greengoal@mfa.com.mt.

‘This diva LEFT NO CRUMBS’.

Vivian Jenna Wilson had made public headlines for speaking out against her dad, alleging that Musk had used sex-selective IVF when she was conceived.

‘My assigned sex at birth was a commodity that was bought and paid for. So when I was feminine as a child and then turned out to be transgender, I was going against the product that was sold. That expectation of masculinity that I had to rebel against all my life was a monetary transaction. A monetary transaction. A MONETARY TRANSACTION’, she wrote on social media.
