The Maltese national water polo team has made history by advancing to the semi-final phase of the 2023 World Cup qualification. After a victory against the Ukrainian team, Malta defeated the British team with a final score of 9-7.

Despite this, Malta managed to score six times, with goals from Liam Galea, Jayden Cutajar, Sam Gialanze, Benji Cachia, and two goals from Jeremy Abela. Tudor Fulea was the top scorer for the Romanian team, who won every session and managed to find the net 13 times. The final result was Malta 6 Romania 13.
