Malta Hosts Cultural Event In Solidarity With Palestine

The Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government and Arts Council Malta and Heritage Malta have announced Qalbna Magħkom, an event of solidarity and awareness following Malta’s official recognition of the Palestinian State.
At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Robert Abela formally recognised Palestine alongside other countries. The decision received cross-party support in Malta, with Opposition Leader Alex Borg stressing in a Facebook post the importance of peace, while ADPD – The Green Party also welcomed the move.
Minister for Cultural Heritage, Owen Bonnici, explained that “the struggle for awareness and humanity cannot be left out of the cultural space. When we came up with the idea of Qalbna Magħkom, we wanted art to act as a voice for solidarity and reflection. As Malta has officially recognised the Palestinian State, this event confirms our commitment to pursue peace through dialogue.” He added that the Grand Master’s Palace, where the event will take place, will be open free of charge to all attendees.
Arts Council Malta Chief Executive, Dr Luke Dalli described the initiative as a moment of responsibility as much as creativity, noting that “this will not be seen as a spectacle, but as a moment where art becomes a universal language of unity and hope…a moment where a small country like ours can show that its heart is big enough to be with the Palestinian population.”
Heritage Malta CEO Noel Zammit stressed the importance of remembrance, observing that war’s brutality is often underestimated when only read about in history books or news reports. For this reason, Heritage Malta is committed to using culture to foster peace and ensure that war remains in the past, not the future.
Qalbna Magħkom will be held on Saturday, 27 September 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Master’s Palace, Valletta. Under the artistic direction of Daniel Cauchi and Yanis Azzopardi, the evening will feature multidisciplinary performances, live music, readings, exhibitions, and installations by local and Palestinian artists.
