Malta Film Commission launch Sustainable Film Industry campaign

May 3 2021 Share

The new Malta Film Commission campaign ‘Sustainable Film Industry’ seeks to mark the success of the Maltese and Gozitan film crew. Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo emphasised the need for a sustainable film industry as it contributes immensely to Malta’s local economy, making it part of the government’s vision to strengthen the sector.

By investing in the infrastructure of the Malta Film Studios and creating job opportunities, the campaign aims to raise awareness of the industry, encourage more people to join and create a sustainable industry for all. Film Commissioner Johann Grech stated that ‘it is our crew who kept the industry working from generation to the other’, celebrating the commitment and hard work of all the members.

An anti-mask protest gathered on the Sliema promenade calling for the health authorities and government to remove the obligatory mask wearing measure. Among the protest placards were also signs also emphasising the non-obligatory vaccination for those who do not wish to receive the jab.

Most of the protestors were however wearing masks as police convened on site to enforce social distancing and make sure no health measures were being violated. It is still illegal for people to go out in public without a mask as health authorities maintain that it is a necessary measure to keep mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
