The Ministry of Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, in collaboration with Malta Enterprise, has introduced the Green Mobility Scheme aimed at encouraging businesses in Malta to embrace electric vehicles (EVs) and sustainable transportation practices.
Acknowledging the crucial role transportation plays in business operations and its impact on environmental pollution, Minister for Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, alongside Malta Enterprise CEO Kurt Farrugia, unveiled the initiative.
The scheme incentivizes businesses to transition to EVs for transporting goods and people by offering financial support such as tax credits and grants.
Minister Schembri highlighted that the scheme supports businesses seeking to invest in electric cars, aligning with the EU’s ambition to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, thereby promoting a shift towards sustainable transport.
Kurt Farrugia elaborated on the scheme’s components, stating it covers investments in EV charging infrastructure and the lease of clean or zero-emission vehicles.
Malta Enterprise provides support for charging infrastructure investments through interest coverage on loans and tax credits, while also offering financial assistance for clean or zero-emission vehicle leases exceeding 12 months, prioritizing them over combustion vehicles.
