It has been revealed that in the arsenal of weapons found at the btottom of the sea off Migra l-Ferha, there were around 40 rifles and machine guns included. The stockpile is believed to form part of a Malta-Italy-Libya smuggling operations, with investigators believing that the Ta’ Maksar gang are involved. Police sources confirmed that the pile is still being analysed for ballistics and forensic evidence, which is a process that can span multiple weeks.

Law enforcement sources told Times of Malta that the arsenal has an estimated street value of up to €80,000. A detonator found among the weaponry is believed to be the same type of explosive used in the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. There is speculation that the stash is linked to the Ta’ Maksar crime gang allegedly headed by Robert and Adrian Agius. The two have been charged with complicity in the murder of Caruana Galizia, along with lawyer Carmel Chircop.
