Majority Of Maltese People Dine Out Once A Week

A new survey conducted by Prof. Vincent Marmara has revealed that over a quarter of Maltese residents dine out at least once a week, making it the most common frequency among locals. The study, commissioned by the Association of Catering Establishments (ACE), is the first of its kind focused on consumer habits in Malta’s catering industry.
Based on a sample of 400 Maltese citizens and 100 tourists, the survey found that 25.3% of locals eat out weekly, followed by 23.5% who dine out monthly. Tourists, by contrast, dine out far more frequently with 44.6% dining out once a day and 32.5% twice daily.
Cuisine type, menu prices and food quality were the top factors influencing restaurant choice among locals. Tourists valued cuisine and price equally. Word of mouth remains key for Maltese diners, while tourists rely more on Google Reviews.
The findings reflect a more selective and cost-conscious public, highlighting the need for restaurants to adapt in an increasingly competitive market.
