Yesterday evening saw the launch of the very first episode of Love Island Malta. But while many were tuning in to see the first official coupling of the show in the summery villa, many were reporting problems due to TVM Live crashing.

The website seemingly crashed due to the high number of viewers tuning in to watch the episode, with the official Love Island social media acknowledging the issue later on in the evening.

Writing on Instagram story, the page first thanked all those who tuned in to watch. ‘Unfortunately, we have been informed that due to the high numbers of online streaming viewership, people were unable to view the episode.’

‘We would like to express that although we do not have control over TVM’s online streaming, we will do our best to have the issue solved as soon as possible’, the statement ended.

Local social media also expressed its frustration at not being able to view the episode, indicating that many were in fact attempting to tune in to watch the first of its kind show on Maltese islands.

Did you tune in to Love Island Malta Episode 1? And what did you think?

One of the people expressing their disappointment at Malta’s performance is iconic local rapper Hooligan, also known as Hooli, who expressed his disappointment at the lack of using the Maltese language.

In a recent Instagram story, Hooli was visibly irritated at the fact that participants like France celebrate the French language in their entries, whilst the Maltese always turn to English.

Towards the end of the video, the legendary local rapper says that ‘maybe’ if we used the Maltese language, we would be in the finally. He then goes on to argue the possibility of this, stating that even if Malta does not get through to the final in Maltese, it would have still celebrated its language.

User @zaaralina_and_mummy took to her Instagram story with her two children, who performed their own version of Tattoo but instead of singing about love, the children put their own spin on the lyrics, singing about their love for pastizzi.

Despite the unfortunate Eurovision result for Malta this year, it’s moments like these that we get to appreciate the power shows such as this have to unite and, ultimately, bring us closer to our culture.

Which version of Tattoo do you prefer?
