Local Mum Goes Viral With Relaxed ‘Serving Kant’

A video shared by Johann Agius of his mum’s nonchalant quoting of Miriana Conte’s iconic song to TikTok has gone viral on the social media app.

Johann asks his mum as she stirs her cappuccino: ‘X’tagħmel inti?’, to which she replies: ‘I do it all the time’.

‘And what do you do all the time’, asks her son, to which she gives the most relaxed version of the chorus line imaginable: ‘serving Kant’.

The video amassed a whopping 12.2K views on TikTok, with Johann calling his mum Miriana’s number one fan.

Malta Lose To Poland Away From Home

In their much anticipated World Cup qualifying match, Malta lost to Poland away from even though they put together a spirited performance.

In this match Malta relied on counter attacks much more than their previous match against Finland, where they dominated possession despite losing.

The strength of the Polish team which featured the likes of Moder and Piatek and later on in the match Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski was simply too much for the Maltese team to handle, despite their never give up attitude.

It was a night to remember for Polish striker Karol Świderski, who managed to score a brace to give his country the win.

Players such as Teddy Teuma, Matthew Guillaimeur and Ilyas Chouaref showed their ability, threatening the Poles on numerous occasions.

The game was unfortunately made worse for Malta in the dying minutes of the game, with star player Ilyas Chouaref getting sent off for an unlucky challenge.

Attention now turns to Malta’s crucial upcoming fixtures: a must-win home clash against Lithuania and a tough away test against European giants, the Netherlands, in June.

BirdLife Highlight Malta’s National Bird: Il-Merill

Birdlife Malta has recently posted an informative video showcasing Malta’s national bird, the blue rock thrush, also known locally as the Merill.

The video highlights the key differences between the male and female of the species. The male is easily recognised by its striking blue plumage, while the female has a more subdued brown and grey appearance.

The blue rock thrush is not only featured on the old Maltese lira coin, a nostalgic symbol for many, but is also proudly represented in the logo of the Malta Ornithological Society. Birdlife Malta pointed out in their video that despite being Malta’s national bird, it is often mistakenly believed to be endemic to the island. However, the blue rock thrush can also be found in various other countries across Europe and beyond.

‘The beautiful male bird has a lot of intense blue which is not so common in European birds. While the fame version is greyish brown, in order for the bird not to stand out’, Bird life Malta said.

The blue Blue rock thrush is a larger bird with a strong bill. Its omnivorous diet can vary from fruits, insects, geckos, lizards and skinks.

“Despite it being a solitary bird it is not so shy, recently its population grew and its spread also in urban areas. Apart from areas with cliffs if at dawn you’re hearing a melodious song, that means most likely there’s a pair of Blue rock thrush.”

Their eggs are also blueish in colour.

“The blue bird thrush has ben protected locally since 1911, and it is important to keep protecting it.” Bird life Malta stated.

€10 Million Investment To Boost Msida Electricity Distribution

€10 million investment is being made to modernise the electricity distribution centre in Msida, replacing equipment that has been in operation for over 30 years.

This upgrade, led by Enemalta, will involve the installation of two new transformers and switchgear, increasing the centre’s capacity by 50%.

The improved infrastructure will strengthen the electricity distribution network, benefiting Msida and nearby areas, including Birkirkara, Swatar, San Ġwann, and Santa Venera.

With state-of-the-art technology, the upgraded centre will enhance maintenance processes and enable faster, more effective responses during power disruptions.

This aims to provide both businesses and households with a more reliable electricity supply.

Speaking during a visit to the project, Minister for the Environment and Energy, Miriam Dalli, highlighted the importance of ongoing modernisation in the energy sector.

Enemalta’s Executive Chairman, Ing. Ryan Fava, noted that this initiative is part of a six-year plan to strengthen electricity distribution across Malta.

Work on new distribution centres in Naxxar and Siġġiewi is also set to begin this year. Similar upgrades have already been completed in Imrieħel, Marsaskala, and Ħal Tarxien, with further plans to expand and modernise substations to ensure a more efficient and stable energy supply.
