Premier Restaurants Malta, the operator of McDonald’s, has teamed up with the Eastern Regional Council (Reġjun Lvant) and the Ħal Għargħur Local Council to install 20 new bins at the well-loved Top of the World area.

This scenic spot, popular with both residents and tourists, has long faced problems with littering. The initiative aims to encourage responsible waste disposal and improve overall cleanliness.

The bins, featuring joint branding, have been placed in strategic locations to ensure easy access for visitors. They will be emptied more frequently to help maintain a tidy and pleasant environment.

Peter Hili, Managing Director of Premier Restaurants Malta, stated that this collaboration reflects McDonald’s commitment to supporting the communities it serves.

“This partnership is a straightforward yet effective way to help keep public areas clean and enjoyable,” he said.

Anthony Chircop, President of the Eastern Regional Council, highlighted the importance of public-private collaboration in tackling environmental issues. Mayor of Ħal Għargħur, Helen Gauci, expressed her pride in supporting efforts that promote cleaner public spaces.

This bin installation is part of McDonald’s Malta’s broader commitment to community support, sustainability initiatives, and partnerships aimed at improving waste management and local environments.

How Does Malta’s Tap Water Compare To The Rest Of The World?

How Does Malta's Tap Water Compare To The Rest Of The World?
Apr 4 2025 Share

Have you ever wondered how Malta’s tap water stacks up against other countries? Let’s take a look at how our water quality and taste compare globally:

Safer Than Many European Countries – Malta meets the highest EU drinking water standards, ranking among the top 20 nations for safety, ahead of several larger countries.

Reverse Osmosis Advantage – Unlike many countries that rely on groundwater or reservoirs, Malta produces most of its tap water through advanced reverse osmosis, ensuring a cleaner and more controlled supply.

Lower Mineral Content Than Hard Water Regions – Countries like the UK and Italy often have ‘hard water’ due to high mineral content. Malta’s improvements have achieved a balanced mineral composition while reducing chlorides and chlorine for better taste.

Better Than Bottled Water? – Many bottled waters originate from sources with similar or even lower treatment standards than tap water. With Malta’s latest upgrades and the option of activated carbon filters, tap water is now a fresher, eco-friendly alternative!

Reducing Plastic Waste Like Scandinavian Countries – In places like Norway and Sweden, drinking tap water is the norm, drastically reducing plastic bottle usage. With Malta’s improved supply, we can follow their example and cut unnecessary plastic waste.

Malta’s tap water has come a long way. With great taste and top-tier safety, there’s never been a better time to turn on the tap and enjoy!
