Lionel Messi, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, was officially unveiled as a player for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.
The Argentine received an enthusiastic welcome from approximately 20,000 fans at the DRV PNK Stadium, despite his previous forgettable seasons at Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi was joined by his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets at the MLS side, co-owned by David Beckham. A temporary grandstand was set up to accommodate more spectators for his presentation.
The event featured video messages from notable American sports figures like Tom Brady and Stephen Curry, emphasizing Messi’s significance. Addressing the crowd in Spanish, Messi expressed his eagerness to train, compete, and help the club grow.

He conveyed his happiness about choosing to play in Miami with his family and expressed confidence in the project’s success.
After two disappointing seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, where Messi scored 32 goals and provided 35 assists, he sought a fresh start. Speculation arose when he was suspended for an unauthorized promotional trip to Saudi Arabia, suggesting a move to the Saudi Pro League. However, Messi declined an offer from Al-Hilal and opted for Inter Miami.
David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, described Messi’s arrival as a dream come true, while primary owner Jorge Mas hailed him as the best player ever. Messi’s first game with Inter Miami is expected to be against Cruz Azul from Mexico in the Leagues Cup on July 21.
