Lidl trainers selling for hundreds on eBay following UK sellout

Sep 21 2021 Share

Lidl’s famous colorful sneakers have made their way to eBay where they are selling for hundreds of pounds after completely selling out all across the UK’s West Midlands. A frenzy of shoppers desperate to get their hands on the exclusive shoes made their way to the budget supermarket’s inexpensive ‘Lidl by Lidl’ range after it went on sale across the UK in stores from September 16th. The unisex sneakers, donning the supermarket brand colors, were priced at £12.99, but after their eBay appearance, things got a little more pricey.

Sellers have been offering the sneakers for prices which range between £500 and the buy-it-now price of £1,000. Shoppers have thus been left pretty frustrated they couldn’t get the sneakers for a cheaper deal, so much so that a Lidl spokesperson revealed that an investigation will be launched into eBay users sky-rocketing prices for their sneakers. The shoes went completely viral internationally and locally, becoming some of the hottest shoes of 2020. And the trend, it seems, isn’t dying out too soon.

Cyclist Fabio describes his ‘lowest darkest moment’ during 47 hour cycle

Cyclist Fabio describes his 'lowest darkest moment' during 47 hour cycle
Sep 21 2021 Share

National record holder and cyclist Fabio Spiteri embarked on a bike ride 47hrs and 41 minutes long around Sicily to raise €50,000 for around 21 animal shelters. The feat was massive and grueling, with Spiteri revealing that throughout his voyage on our Italian neighbor, he underwent some daunting physical and mental challenges. During the trip, which is the second fastest in history, resulted in him having several doubts after 400km, as the 40 degrees Celsius heat beat down on him. At the 500km mark, Fabio slept for around 5 seconds on the bike, resulting in him hitting a barrier and smashing his shin. Yet, he persisted.

He took a power nap of around an hour after 600km on a pavement and continued, followed by another 20 minute break after 700km. He revealed how he had to dig deep to survive 2 days, 2 nights and 3 sunrises. Thankfully, our local Iron Man managed to complete his 1000km in 47 hours. Fabio’s amazing feat is not only one for the sports and athletic books but also a generous act of charity from which animal shelters in Malta and Gozo will be greatly benefitting!

School receptionist accused of sexual abuse of security staff

Sep 20 2021 Share

A school receptionist has been arraigned on charges of sexually harassing up to 3 members of security staff which were all stationed on school premises. The accused, Joseph Borg, 61, is a Marsascala resident who plead not guilty to the charges of committing non-consensual sexual acts, harassment and requesting sexual favors from the three different individuals. With the school not identified in the proceedings, the court was told by Inspector Joseph Busuttil that the accused had been asking for sexual favors from three female staff members.

He had allegedly also rubbed himself against one of the victims. The accused’s lawyer, Robert Piscopo, requested bail but the prosecution objected, arguing that there was a big problem with the witnesses. With five witnesses in total, four having worked with him, Piscopo argued that each case had to be dealt with on its individual merits. Piscopo pointed to Borg’s clean criminal record, saying that if he were given conditions, the accused would work with them. The defence also pointed out that the accused had just been diffused from hospital but Magistrate Ian Farrugia denied bail, citing the early stage in proceedings and the fear of the accused approaching witnesses.
