The MICHELIN Guide has unveiled its latest selection for Malta, awarding a first MICHELIN Star to Le GV.

Located on the 11th floor of the 1926 Le Soleil Hotel, Le GV offers an elegant dining experience inspired by the legacy of George V, the famed Parisian hotel.

Chefs Andrew Borg and David Tanti present a refined, internationally influenced menu, with highlights including cured aged amberjack with sea urchin, preserved fennel, and pink grapefruit sabayon.

This fourth edition of the MICHELIN Guide in Malta recognises 43 establishments.

Valletta’s ION – The Harbour retains its status as the only restaurant with two MICHELIN Stars. GV joins Fernandõ Gastrotheque, De Mondion, Noni, Rosamì, and Under Grain as one of six restaurants awarded one MICHELIN Star.

Rosamì retains its star under new chef Eoin Smith, who crafts tasting menus focused on Maltese ingredients, while Fernandõ Gastrotheque, led by Hiram Cassar, continues to serve elegant, creative dishes.

Five restaurants hold Bib Gourmand recognition for offering outstanding food at great value: AYU, Grain Street, Rubino, Terrone, and Commando.

Three new restaurants—La Pira, Risette, and The Seafood Grill Market—have been added to the guide.

La Pira specialises in traditional Maltese cuisine, Risette offers contemporary fine dining, and The Seafood Grill Market showcases fresh seafood with Mediterranean flavours.

Cardinal Mario Grech Highlighted Among Favourites To Become Pope

Cardinal Mario Grech Highlighted Among Favourites To Become Pope
Feb 20 2025 Share

As Pope Francis’ health declines, speculation is intensifying over who will be chosen as the next leader of the Catholic Church.

One name at the centre of discussions is Cardinal Mario Grech, a prominent figure who could shape the future of the papacy.

Currently serving as the secretary general of the Synod of Bishops, Grech has been a key advocate for dialogue and inclusivity within the Church.

He has spoken openly about the need to engage with those who feel marginalised, particularly individuals affected by Church teachings on sexuality and marriage.

Born in Malta, Grech was appointed a cardinal by Pope Francis in 2020, cementing his influence within the Vatican.

His leadership in the ongoing Synod on Synodality has positioned him as a bridge between traditional Catholic values and a more pastoral, reform-minded approach.

Many see him as a natural successor to Pope Francis, someone who could continue his emphasis on openness, dialogue, and a Church that listens.

With Pope Francis, the oldest pontiff in over a century, recently hospitalised for pneumonia, discussions about his potential successor are growing more urgent.

The process of electing a new pope follows a conclave, where cardinals under the age of 80 vote to determine the next leader of the Church. Grech, as a key figure in Vatican affairs, is seen as a strong contender.

The Maltese islands woke up to heavy rainfall this morning, as has been forecasted for this upcoming week.

Facebook page ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ posted a meteorological photo of the weather patterns over the islands, with blue, green and purple hues covering most of Malta.

Gozo, however, seems rather untouched.

However, this rain is not expected to persist throughout the day, according to most reports.

And yet, Friday is expected to bring even more rain as a cloudy weekend is set to persist.
