2 Ħamrun School Parkings To Be Used By Community

2 Ħamrun School Parkings To Be Open For Community

An agreement has been signed allowing the Ħamrun community to use the parking facilities at the Ex-Liceo Secondary School and the Ex-Maria Assumpta Secondary Complex. This arrangement will not affect the use of the parking spaces by educators and school administration, nor during major events organized by the schools.

Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, Clifton Grima, stated, “This agreement is part of our effort to integrate education with the community. In every school we are modernizing, as well as in new constructions, we are making facilities available for community use where possible. We believe school spaces should be accessible to the community when not being used for educational purposes.”

He highlighted that facilities available to the community include sports facilities, halls, and other spaces. The Ministry is ensuring that vehicle parking spaces are not left unused when schools do not need them.

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, commended the agreement between the two schools and the Ħamrun Local Council, noting that it will enhance the quality of life for Ħamrun residents. She remarked that free parking spaces in a densely populated area like Ħamrun will greatly benefit residents.

“I trust this agreement will bring peace of mind to vehicle owners in Ħamrun. I urge everyone using this parking to adhere to the rules and designated times,” stressed Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli.

The agreement also includes provisions to ensure the parking areas are safe and well-maintained. Security will be ensured through guards and surveillance cameras.

Ħamrun Local Council Mayor, Christian Sammut, thanked all those involved in the discussions that led to this agreement. “This agreement will help alleviate the parking shortage issue for the Ħamrun community, and the council is grateful that its request was granted. Through this agreement, the community will be better served,” said Mr. Sammut.

Collection of Bulky Waste From Your Doorstep

Collection of Bulky Waste From Your Doorstep
Jun 5 2024 Share

Disposing of bulky waste has long posed a challenge for those dedicated to maintaining a clean environment. Fortunately, environmental awareness has grown among the Maltese and Gozitan populations. To support this, essential collection services have been established.

Today, residents need to call their Local Council to provide details about the bulky waste they want collected. The Council then informs them when to place it outside for collection. This system is designed to be practical and efficient, requiring minimal effort from residents to maintain its success.

The impact of this service can already be seen in various localities. Many areas previously littered with bulky waste have seen significant improvements and, while some spots remain problematic, the plan aims to eliminate the issue entirely for the benefit of residents and their families.

Since January 2023, the collection and transportation of domestic waste have been organised on a regional basis. This change addressed the previous inconsistencies in collection schedules across different localities, resulting in a unified timetable for waste disposal.

The overarching goal is to establish a single, practical, and efficient waste collection system for Malta and Gozo. Protecting this system is crucial. Increased understanding and appreciation of this service’s value will lead to cleaner streets and squares, enhancing the environment for residents and tourists alike.
