Lady Gaga recently responded to a resurfaced story about an old Facebook group created by her former classmates at NYU, mocking her dreams of fame. Gaga briefly attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts before leaving in 2005 to pursue music.
Around this time, she was performing under her stage name, Lady Gaga, leading some classmates to create a group called “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous.” The group ridiculed her performances and aspirations.
A viral TikTok video now showcases screenshots of the deleted group alongside a list of Gaga’s many accomplishments, including 13 Grammy wins, an Oscar, and more.

Gaga herself commented on the video, sharing how her college peers doubted her, but emphasizing the importance of perseverance: “This is why you can’t give up.”
Her journey to fame wasn’t quick. After leaving college, she played small shows in New York City before releasing her debut album The Fame in 2008, featuring hits like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.”
One former classmate later recalled how others would even stomp on her event flyers. Today, Lady Gaga is one of the most awarded artists in the world, with numerous Billboard hits, Grammy Awards, and an Oscar for her song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.
