“Iftaħ u Ixrob”: Behind Malta’s Tap Water Transformation

“Iftaħ u Ixrob”: Behind Malta’s Tap Water Transformation
Mar 28 2025 Share

For years, many in Malta hesitated to drink tap water due to its taste. But times have changed!

Thanks to groundbreaking upgrades by the Water Services Corporation (WSC), Malta’s tap water is now not only safe but also tastes better than ever.

Here are some fascinating facts about this remarkable improvement:

A Harmonised Taste Across Malta & Gozo – Before, tap water varied in taste depending on where you lived. Now, a unified water quality zone ensures the same fresh taste everywhere.

Reverse Osmosis at the Forefront – Over 70% of our tap water now comes from reverse osmosis, offering superior quality straight from the tap.

Lower Chlorine, Better Flavour – Chloride and chlorine levels have been reduced by 30%, addressing one of the main concerns people had about tap water.

One of the World’s Best for Safety – Malta now ranks among the top 20 countries worldwide for tap water safety!

Government Support for Even Better Taste – A new scheme covers 60% of the cost (up to €100) for households installing activated carbon filters, which enhance taste while keeping all the health benefits.

By embracing this transformation, we can all reduce plastic waste and enjoy high-quality drinking water straight from the tap.

Malta’s Population Up By 90,000 Foreign Workers, Says PN Leader

Malta's Population Up By 90,000 Foreign Workers, Says PN Leader
Mar 28 2025 Share

Speaking on an episode of Popolin, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said that Malta’s population increased by 90,000 foreign workers after he had, around 4 years ago, proposed a national discussion on population and immigration.

The Nationalist Party leader said that he had suggested to Prime Minister Robert Abela that a national discussion take place on the issue, but it was turned down.

He said that it would have entailed taking on the advice of experts, the holding of a conference and various other methods to address the issue of a growing population.

He said that despite approaching the Prime Minister with the positive attitude, the proposal was still turned down. This, said Grech, shows that the Prime Minister does not want to listen to suggestions.

What do you think?
