Kordin Correctional Facility has confirmed that a prisoner tested positive for tuberculosis, but no further cases have been detected.

The inmate was hospitalised on Sunday and diagnosed on Monday after undergoing required medical tests.

The prison emphasised that while most of Malta’s population is vaccinated, all necessary precautions are being followed.

Contact tracing covered three weeks, with 82 people, including staff and inmates, all testing negative.

The Correctional Services Agency assured that the health of both inmates and staff is a priority and they continue to work closely with health authorities.
