Keyon Ewurum Gets Fifa World Cup Qualifiers Senior Call Up

Keyon Ewurum has received his first senior national team call-up as Malta finalised its squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The young Valletta FC midfielder was a late addition by head coach Emilio De Leo and was not part of the initial 35-man provisional list.

Born in 2007, Ewurum is now the youngest player in the squad, slightly younger than goalkeeper James Sissons.

His inclusion stands out in the final 26-man selection, which also includes two additional players who are suspended for Malta’s opening match against Lithuania on Saturday, 7 June at the National Stadium. Malta will then face the Netherlands in Groningen on 10 June.

Ilyas Chouaref will miss both matches as he serves a two-game suspension.

Kurt Shaw and Gabriel Mentz, while included in the final list, are unavailable for the Lithuania fixture due to suspension but will return for the match in the Netherlands.

The national team is scheduled to hold two training sessions today, with the evening session at 18:15 open to the public. Supporters will have the chance to watch the squad train and meet the players afterwards.

Arrigo stresses that such innovative solutions could help preserve Malta’s natural heritage while respecting existing legal agreements related to the island. He encourages MIDI, the government, and all stakeholders to work collaboratively toward sustainable outcomes.

“By exploring these alternatives, we can protect green spaces, provide accessible public parks, and reduce the ecological footprint of new developments,” Arrigo said. “This is the moment to rethink our approach and create lasting benefits for future generations.”

Luca Arrigo also added in a separate post, “I vibe coded this AI powered policy debate platform for the Manuel island controversy. This is intended to give us all an unbiased source of information where we can ask questions about the project. I have sent a “freedom of information” request to the government to receive the full contract so that it can be added to the knowledge base too.”

The announcement was made by Minister for the Environment and Energy, Miriam Dalli, during the MED9 meeting in Slovenia, where ministers from Mediterranean EU member states convened. Discussions at the annual forum included climate resilience and ongoing efforts to position the region as a centre for clean energy.

Mediterranean Climate Change Conference To Be Held In Malta

Minister Dalli noted that the Mediterranean, including Malta, is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. She highlighted the need for regional collaboration, stating that individual efforts alone are insufficient.

She also underlined the importance of EU Mediterranean countries working together to secure targeted funding and advance shared priorities.

The September conference, organised in collaboration with the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), aims to provide a platform for open dialogue on regional climate challenges and potential solutions.

It is expected to contribute to the development of adaptable climate strategies that reflect the specific environmental and socio-economic conditions of the Mediterranean region.
