750 Fines For Over Speeding Since January 1st 2025

Last weekend, the Malta Police Force carried out approximately 30 road-check inspections across various roads in Malta, resulting in 60 drivers being fined for excessive speeding.

Around 800 vehicles were stopped, with police issuing multiple fines for breaches of traffic regulations.

These inspections form part of routine checks. Since 1st January, approximately 500 road checks have been conducted, during which thousands of vehicles were stopped and numerous fines issued. Among these, 750 fines were related to speeding offences.

Road checks were carried out across Malta and Gozo, with major inspections taking place on the Coast Road, Dawret St Paul’s Bay, and Garibaldi Street in Marsa. Some drivers were caught speeding at 113 km/h and 150 km/h in zones where the maximum speed limit is 60, 70, or 80 km/h.

The Malta Police Force has confirmed that routine road checks will continue in the coming days and months. Authorities are urging drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, emphasising the importance of road safety for both their own well-being and that of others.

Renovation works at Ġnien il-Familja in Bormla have been completed, with the park now featuring multi-sensory play equipment designed for children with different abilities.

The project was carried out by the Bormla Local Council with funding from the Accessibility and Mobility Scheme, issued by the Local Government Division.

The inauguration was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli, Bormla Mayor Marco Agius, Director General of the Local Government Division Emil Vassallo, and local councillors.

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli expressed satisfaction that Bormla now has another open space accessible to all, particularly children with different abilities.

She emphasised that such initiatives improve the quality of life for citizens and families, whether through open spaces, cultural events, or seasonal activities.

She also highlighted the importance of inclusivity in local council projects, ensuring that public spaces are designed for everyone’s enjoyment, in line with government policies promoting a better quality of life for all.

Bormla Mayor Marco Agius thanked the Accessibility and Mobility Scheme for funding the project, allowing the local council to renovate another public space. He emphasised that such schemes enable local councils to make a real difference in residents’ lives.
