Kayak for Charity take on a new challenge aimed to break their own fundraising record for Inspire Malta

Kayak for Charity take on a new challenge aimed to break their own fundraising record for Inspire Malta
Aug 29 2022 Share

The duo behind Kayak for Charity, Dorian and Albert, are taking on a new challenge this year, with the aim to continue renewing their support towards Inspire Foundation Malta. This time, the pair will be paddling by canoes around the island of Malta, in aid of Inspire.

Last year, the pair took on an outstanding paddling journey of more than 1000 kilometres starting from Malta to Sicily, and then journeying all around the island of Sicily – a journey that took almost a month. This year the duo will be embarking on a new adventure making them the first persons to paddle an OC1 around Malta, all in aid of Inspire Foundation.

Used in competitive sport, Albert and Dorian are the only people to own the OC1 canoes in Malta, and through this initiative, this will be the first time that an OC1 will be paddling around Malta. One of the most obvious challenges is that the stroke and seating are quite different from that of a kayak, and Albert and Dorian may have to withstand severe back pain to complete the route. There is also very limited storage space on the vessel so any food and drink would need to be rationed throughout. In addition, they will paddle this journey unassisted.

The distance of this paddle journey is 42 Nautical miles, or approximately 75 km. The entire journey should take just over 12 hours of hard work and padding but is also very much dependent on weather conditions. The pair plan to take on this new paddle journey in August, following Santa Maria feast.

In 2021, Dorian and Albert managed to raise the wonderful sum of €20,000 for Inspire Foundation. This year, they aim to break their own record. All those interested in supporting Kayak for Charity through this journey can submit their donation by clicking on one of the donation buttons on this page: https://inspire.org.mt/kayakforcharity/

If you’d like to donate more than the options available, you may email [email protected] to make your donation.

Wacky Maltese Weather: Dry Autumn and possible hurricane ahead

Wacky Maltese Weather: Dry Autumn and possible hurricane ahead
Aug 29 2022 Share

We’re in for some weird weather patterns ahead. According to Facebook page Malta Weather, forecasts are seeing ‘meteorological autumn’ starting pretty much where summer left off.’

This means that maximum temperatures will be rising to around mid 30°C in September, delaying the rainy season for several days.

In fact, October and November are being predicted as being drier than usual for this time of the year. And yet, at least one severe thunderstorm is expected to cause some local damage across the islands.

And that’s not all, as a ‘medicane’, or mediterranean hurricane, is likely to form later on in autumn due to current heat being maintained well into the season.

If you’re wondering about this upcoming week, there’s no clear consistency when it comes to daily weather. The skies are set to be partly sunny and cloudy all the way up until the weekend.

Fitness group Bulletproof visited the only female-only gym section in Malta at Bertu’s Gym.

The charismatic owner Bertu gave a tour of the women’s only area where one can workout in comfort and meet other like-minded women on their road to achieving their fitness goals.

Turning 40 years old this October, the gym is a one-of-a-kind in Malta, and is equipped with all the necessary equipment and technology for gym-goers to use.

Bertu Camilleri, himself a former boxing champion, created the gym to encourage all those wishing to work on their fitness, old and young, to do so with the best tools available as well as peace of mind.

Bertu understands that not all women might be comfortable enough yet to attend jam-packed gyms and thus has reserved a space for them to not be ostracised from the world of fitness because of it.

PN will not hold Independence Day mass meeting to focus on raising standard of activities

PN will not hold Independence Day mass meeting to focus on raising standard of activities
Aug 29 2022 Share

It has been revealed that the Nationalist Party will not hold this year’s traditional Independence Day mass meeting in an attempt to ‘elevate’ the standards of a party activities.

A PN representative told MaltaToday that the activities celebrating Malta’s Independence from the United Kingdom in 1964 will not happen at Fosos but an area within the vicinity and will be quite toned down.

It was also reported that party committees will not be invited to set up food stalls or information stands as per party norm, but internal dialogue will be held to raise the bar of the Independence Day activities. The party’s programme will be made public when it is finalised.

What do you make of this?
