#JusticeForKant Petition Launched To Support Malta In Eurovision

#JusticeForKant Petition Launched To Support Malta In Eurovision
Mar 5 2025 Share

A petition was launched called #JUSTICEFORKANT to support the word ‘KANT’ in Malta’s Eurovision 2025 entry.

‘We, the people of Malta and all supporters from other countries , call on the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to respect the Maltese language and allow the use of the word Kant in Malta’s Eurovision 2025 entry’, the description reads.

The petition explains how the word ‘Kant’ simply means singing and originates from the Latin word ‘cantus’, which ‘has influenced many European languages.’

‘It is a fundamental part of our linguistic and cultural heritage. However, despite its innocent meaning, the EBU has reportedly censured the word due to its phonetic similarity to an offensive term in English.’

‘This decision is not only unfair but also disregards the linguistic diversity that Eurovision is meant to celebrate. Censoring kant implies that the Maltese language must be altered to cater to non-Maltese speakers interpretations, setting a dangerous precedent for all minority languages in the contest.’

So far, 277 verified signatures have been inputted in support. Would you sign this petition?

Basketball Coach Trips Player During Local Final

Mar 5 2025 Share

The Malta Basketball Association announced disciplinary proceedings against Paul Ferrante, coach of Starlites, after he was caught on camera tripping Hibernians player Derek Brown.

This Tok place during the cup final, with the MBA saying that disciplinary proceedings against the coach ‘over alleged misconduct during Sunday’s match’ are underway.

‘The MBA also acknowledges the receipt of a report from Hibernians BC about the on-court incident whereby the alleged offence took place during the afore-mentioned game.’

‘The Malta Basketball Association has also taken cognisance of the comments and posts made by Hibernians BC player Derek Brown on his personal social media account/s. The Association’s Disciplinary Commissioner has also opened disciplinary proceedings against Mr Brown over violations of the MBA’s Disciplinary Code.’

This came after Brown posted the video, saying that ‘as I’m continuing my professional career here in Malta I was attacked by the other team’s coach. He hurt me by tripping me during a cup final. The @maltabasketball has done nothing about this as I was threatened with suspension if I don’t take down these videos.’
