US COVID deaths have surpassed the 500,000 threshold, with infections standing at 28.1 million, way above any other country. Warning against getting used to the misery this brings, President Joe Biden, along with the vice-president and family, held a respectful moment of silence.

Flags were lowered to half-mast for five days to commemorate the ‘heartbroken milestone’. Calling the losses ‘extraordinary’ people, he related the nation’s losses with his own familial experiences with tragedy.

With National Cathedral bells tolling 500 times, once for every 1000 Americans lost, Biden diverges from his predecessor Donald Trump in bringing the required attention to the pandemic and its hefty price.

A sign outside Suq Tal-Belt – Valletta Food Market generated backlash on social media after refraining customers from bringing in their pet companions. Reading; ‘We love pets! But they aren’t allowed inside.

‘Please you can use tables outside’, the sign garnered attention which resulted in Facebook posts, ironically criticising the implications.

While congratulating for his newly-confirmed role in Joe Biden’s cabinet, Abela also highlighted Malta’s vision for a carbon-neutral economy, an area where both our country and the United States can work together.

The Prime Minister also noted how Malta’s progress in civil rights were also recognised in the United States.

Gozitan teachers and LSEs asked to travel to Malta for COVID-19 vaccine

After Gozitan Teachers and LSEs were informed to travel to Malta to receive their COVID vaccine, PN deputies Chris Said and Kevin Cutajar take to Facebook to condemn the decision.

The vulnerable, as also informed by Professor Charmaine Gauci, were informed to ignore the letter informing them to travel to Malta for their vaccine.

Gozitans expressed their worries over the initial message as travelling between the islands could in fact raise their chances of contracting the virus.

Spokespersons who addressed the issue stated that those not vulnerable should also receive their vaccination in Gozo as the necessary facilities are available there.
